Assisted Living: It's Never Too Early To Plan

Blog

Most people don't give a thought to assisted living plans until they are in their twilight years. However, assisted living facilities aren't just for the elderly. If you suffer from an accident or injury that leaves you unable to live alone, you will likely move to an assisted living facility so you can retain some of your independence. If you wait to determine how to pay for your expenses until it's time to find an assisted living facility for yourself or your spouse, your family will likely bear the cost unless you have planned ahead. If you are a young adult or middle-aged adult, it is never too early to start planning for your retirement and the possibility that someday, you might need to live in an assisted living facility.

Investments

No matter how you plan to spend your retirement, there is no time like the present to start investing your money wisely. Find a local financial adviser and get some assistance with creating an investment plan that will allow you to live comfortably now, and save for your future at the same time. Choose investment vehicles that will give you a good return on your money, so you can do more with fewer funds. You should also choose an investment professional that has a good reputation in the community and the industry, and one that has lots of experience helping young adults fund their retirement plans.

Trust

You may think that you are also too young (or too broke) to set up a trust. Trusts are for old, rich people, right? Not at all. Trusts can cost quite a bit of money to set up, but having your money in a trust will ensure that the funds you've worked so hard to earn will be used for your needs. The cost for your health care and living expenses in an assisted living facility will be paid directly from the trust, so payments are never late or missed. This also keeps friends or family members from misusing your money if you are incapacitated or cannot otherwise oversee your accounts. You will need the services of an experienced trusts lawyer to help you set up your trust - this isn't something the layman should do alone.

Don't leave the burden of your support and living expenses to your children or other loved ones. Contact the proper professionals today to plan for your future so you can be sure you and your family will be taken care of throughout your life.

Recognizing Great Nursing Home Amenities

When I started looking for a care center for my mother, I decided that I needed to learn a little more about nursing home amenities. I wanted her to be in a safe, happy, fun place, but I didn't know what to look for. To make my search easier, I picked up a piece of paper and a pen and started calling different facilities. I made a list of all of the exciting, new features that places were offering, and then I showed the list to my mom. I let her decide where to stay and what she wanted to do. This blog is all about recognizing great nursing home amenities, so that you can keep the people that you love happy and content.
