How To Select A New Home For Your Senior Years

Blog

Do you look at your children and grandchildren and feel like it was just yesterday you were their ages? If you have reached those senior years that are also known as golden years, you may be considering downsizing from your large home. If that is the case, from an apartment to senior living facilities, here are some ideas that might help you to decide what you want to do.

Face Your Emotions - Talk about mixed emotions! Part of you is probably feeling very melancholy about the passage of time. It's especially hard to consider leaving a home where many memories were made. However, when you think about the plus side of downsizing, you might feel really good about the fact that you won't have as much work to do in your home. Think about not having to mow a large lawn, for example.

List Your Options - It's a good idea to write your options on a sheet of paper. If you are married, together you can go over that list to see which will work better or not. If you are a single person, consider asking one of your children or a trusted friend to go over the options with you. Two brains are better than one, after all!

  • Apartment Living - If you feel like you'd like to be close to action like the theater, museums, restaurants and shopping, consider getting an apartment that is close to these things. The great part about apartment living is that you can go to the apartment manager anytime something needs to be repaired. And, you won't have any gardening to worry about.
  • RV Living - Have you always wanted to travel all around the United States? If so, a recreational vehicle might be just the thing for you. If you've never been in an RV you'll be floored by how spacious they are. And, when you're ready to see the sights, you just take your home with you.
  • Garden Homes - If you are simply not ready to give up living in a house, a garden home might be just the place for you. You'll still have a garden to care for, but it will be a manageable size.
  • Senior Living Facilities - Have you ever been on a cruise? If you enjoyed that experience, you will probably love living at a senior living facility like Crimson Ridge Meadows. Today's senior facilities often offer things like a theater, a beautiful dining room, a library, a beauty shop, and even an exercise room. And, just like cruising, you'll have the opportunity to join others for field trips and other fun events.

No matter where you decide to hang your hat, be sure to keep names and contact information of old friends and neighbors so you can keep in touch with them.

Recognizing Great Nursing Home Amenities

When I started looking for a care center for my mother, I decided that I needed to learn a little more about nursing home amenities. I wanted her to be in a safe, happy, fun place, but I didn't know what to look for. To make my search easier, I picked up a piece of paper and a pen and started calling different facilities. I made a list of all of the exciting, new features that places were offering, and then I showed the list to my mom. I let her decide where to stay and what she wanted to do. This blog is all about recognizing great nursing home amenities, so that you can keep the people that you love happy and content.
