5 Reasons To See A Physical Therapist Today

Blog

If you have been injured for any reason, whether it be from a car accident or from participating in a sport, you may have some pain that could result in you needing to see a physical therapist. Many people avoid going to a physical therapist believing that instead they can get better on their own. However, this is not the case. A physical therapist can easily help reduce pain and get you back on your feet before you know it. Here are five reasons to consider seeing a physical therapist today:

  1. The Pain Has Been Consistent for Four Days: If you have not been exerting yourself and you have been treating the pain, but it is still  persistent after four days, it's time to consider a visit to your physical therapist. Your physical therapist can access the injury and determine what type of exercises can help the pain to disappear. Resting is sometimes not even for injuries to be recovered.
  2. Pain Reoccurs After Exercise: If you participate in some kind of exercise regularly and you have pain that is continuing in the same area during or afterwards, then you should see your physical therapist. This is commonly seen in runners who often suffer from knee pain or hamstring pain. Your physical therapist will teach you some stretching exercises that should help relieve the pain and prevent it from reoccurring after your daily exercise routine.
  3. There is Swelling: Any swelling that you have after suffering from some kind of injury means that you should see a physical therapist. The swelling can indicate a worse problem, such as a muscle tear. Your physical therapist will work to correct this and help to get the swelling down as soon as possible.
  4. Medicine Isn't Working: Many people see their regular doctor after suffering from an injury and most of the time your doctor will prescribe pain medications that should work. However, sometimes these medications don't work. If this is the case, it's best to visit a physical therapist who can instead suggest some direct pain management that may be more effective.
  5. Physical Changes: If you notice physical changes when you are exercising, it's something to be concerned about. For example, if you notice that one side of your arm or leg is not as strong as the other or you notice that certain areas swell when you are exercising, then visiting a physical therapist is suggested. They will determine what the problem may be and provide suggestions about how to work out in a better way to prevent the issue.

Visiting a physical therapist is more than just about working on stretching exercises that you may or may not already know how to do. Instead, it helps to solve a direct problem with a certain area of the body that you are having problems with. In the end, you will learn how to better handle pain and prevent previous pain from reoccurring again.

Recognizing Great Nursing Home Amenities

When I started looking for a care center for my mother, I decided that I needed to learn a little more about nursing home amenities. I wanted her to be in a safe, happy, fun place, but I didn't know what to look for. To make my search easier, I picked up a piece of paper and a pen and started calling different facilities. I made a list of all of the exciting, new features that places were offering, and then I showed the list to my mom. I let her decide where to stay and what she wanted to do. This blog is all about recognizing great nursing home amenities, so that you can keep the people that you love happy and content.
